keewaydin island: rules + Regulations

Olde Naples Water Tours is dedicated to preserving the beauty of Keewaydin island for generations to come. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we respect the island by caring for the wildlife and vegetation that supports it.

Conservancy of Southwest Florida

The Conservancy also patrols the beach. Their main objective is to serve the birds that inhabit the island. If you encounter an injured bird, please do not touch the animal. Instead, call the Conservancy directly at (239) 262-0304.

Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve

Additionally, Rookery Bay also patrols the beaches. Rookery Bay focuses predominantly on wildlife welfare, specifically turtles. If you see cages or fences throughout the island, please keep a 10-foot distance. These encasements are designed to protect turtle nesting grounds.

RULES

  • Please do not touch the turtles or disturb their nests. If you see a turtle on the beach, please keep a fair distance from it. Touching turtles can distress them. What's more, the bacteria on our hands can harm them.

  • Do not bring back any living sea life— this includes live shells. If you pick up a shell with a critter living in it, kindly place it back where you found it.

  • Do not disturb the vegetation on the island. The idea is to leave the island in better condition than when we arrive.

  • Keep off of the grass. Seagrass plays a crucial part in maintaining the health of the beach and preventing erosion.

  • Leave the wildlife alone. If you're lucky enough to encounter the glorious wildlife, Keewaydin supports— please look, but don't touch.

  • Please fill in any dug-out holes on the beach to prevent injury.

Let's do our part to keep Keewaydin Island protected and pristine for generations to come!
